Movements and citizens Summary

, by  Pierre Beaudet

New social movements are expanding in recent years as regards to citizens’ initiatives outside traditional channels (one example is the Occupy movement). Organizations such as trade unions are also involved in the construction of alternatives, without occupying the central place that was theirs in earlier periods. The strength of the current mobilisations is based on the convergence, the meeting or the hybridity of ’new’ and ’old’ movements.
