The Pólis Institute is an NGO (Non-Governmental Organization) of national and international action. Founded in 1987, Pólis works to build fair, sustainable and democratic cities through research, advice and training that will result in more public policies and the advancement of local development. The NGO focuses on issues related to urban space, specifically City Law, Urbanism, Food and Nutrition Security, Solid Waste, Culture, Social Participation, Local Economic Development and Youth. Its work focuses mainly on the relationship between the representations of citizenship and local governments, public policies and processes of popular participation and strengthening of social movements, the organization of forums and networks, the analysis of municipal management and of public policies.
