Over the past decade, the internationalization of the world economy has changed the way societies and states are structured and governed simultaneously with the contraction of time and space that we usually know as “globalization” (Harvey (2005)

This essay focuses on the impacts of these changes over development and cooperation and in particular on relations between the “global north” and the “global south”. In the first part, we will briefly review the process of integration of states and nations (globalization) in the context of a new economic, social and political landscape. In the second part, we will examine some of the emerging patterns from the “global south”. These observations will lead to preliminary conclusions regarding the emergence of new trends in international cooperation.
