Why the question of feminist struggles ?

Because in 2018 women still don’t have the full exercise of their rights.

70 years after the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, women’s rights are still not universal. Serious violations persist throughout the world, both in practice and in legislation. Female genital mutilation, feminicide, prohibition of abortion, salary disparities, early marriage, sexual harassment, social exclusion, under-representation in public and political life, etc. There are countless forms of discrimination against women.

And yet women represent half of the world’s population, half of humanity.

How should we mobilize ?

By protecting our assets

The rights hardly acquired during the 20th and 21st centuries, both in international and regional texts and in national law, must be preserved.

In a world where conservatism and religious fundamentalism are on the rise, it is more than ever important to remember that religious and cultural norms must under no circumstances justify the denial of the universal applicability of human rights to women.

By expressing our indignation !

The situation of women in the world must not be downgraded.

The fight for equality in law and in practice between men and women will continue as long as the latter will remain disadvantaged solely on the basis of their sex.

Women suffering discrimination must be encouraged to express themselves and not humiliated. Movements such as #NiUnaMenos and #MeToo can only be applauded.

By raising awareness !

Education is crucial to achieving sustainable equality.

It is only through a human rights-based education that stereotypes about the role of men and women, in particular those related to women’s place in the family and women’s bodies, can be eliminated.

By joining forces !

Unity is critical to face the growth of fundamentalists who deny women’s rights.

Despite the differences between feminist movements, we must not forget our shared goal: equality.

Students’ movements, trade unions, etc. also have their role to play.

...But always in an intersectional dynamic !

It is essential that movements reshape social patterns. Gender, class, race, ethnicity, age, disability and sexual orientation must not be a factor of compartmentalization.
