In support of young Chilean activists who are victims of judicial repression

, by Angelo Montoni-Rios

Judicial repression has become a new weapon of States in the fight against social protest.

The last case that prompted our reaction involves the sentencing of 6 young people for the death in a fire of a 71-year-old worker during a street demonstration on 21 May 2016. These heavy sentences for a highly publicized case raise many doubts and make it possible to affirm, what is becoming a habit, the existence of a police and judicial structure to find guilty parties.

What big transition?

, by Pierre Beaudet, Plateforme altermondialiste

This Thursday, May 17 opens in Montreal the "Great Transition", a rather exceptional event that awaits more than 1000 people.

For this meeting, the idea of "transition" becomes a process, an obstinate and daily struggle and at the same time a set of "pre-figurative" experiments. Hence the strong desire to create movements and parties that are tools of emancipation, not levers to allow "managers and skilled" to take the place of others. Hence the need to bring to the forefront and give voice to the invisible and inaudible of history, women, natives, refugees, the damned of the earth of all kinds to begin with this huge "precariat" , especially young, especially female. Hence the need to rethink the economy out of the shackles of false growth and false progress, by restoring another relationship with Pachamama, which requires not to consider it as a "resource".

Discussions of the 11th WTO ministerial conference fail ! Celebration of the WTO negotiations failure in Argentina

, by La Via Campesina

La Via Campesina and its partners demand the END of the WTO and of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) system, leaning on the many delegations gathered on this occasion. After this new failure of the WTO, trade liberalization negotiators will continue to look for other ways to reach their goal. Even the essential public storage programs were not allowed, even though they were provided for by the peace clause adopted in 2013.

The Via Campesina, will therefore continue to fight strongly against the threats of the WTO and against all free trade agreements, for the right to food sovereignty of peoples.
